La Academia de Hollywood aumenta membresia

“LA ACADEMIA DE HOLLYWOOD AUMENTA SU MEMBRESÍA” por Manolo García Oliva

Ha sido una ardua labor la lucha por los derechos de las minorías artísticas dentro del gremio, pero por fin la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de Hollywood ha cedido y la cuota de admisión a su membresía va en aumento.

Desde el gran descontento surgido a partir de 2014, la Academia un año más tarde hizo un significativo aumento de miembros entre personas de color e hispanos incrementando este en 32 % de asociados.

Este año acaba de darse a conocer que 842 nuevos afiliados tendrán voz y voto a partir de la próxima temporada de nominaciones y premiación.
Los nombres también destacan figuras prominentes como la veternana Betty White, Lou Ferrigno, el famoso hombre verde de la serie “The Hulk”; Lady Gaga, Monica Belucci, Channing Tatum, Elizabeth Moss, Kristen Stewart, Letitia Wright, Jon Chu, Jennifer Kent, Guy Ritchie, y el dúo formado por Phil Lord y Chris Miller, también contará con prominentes nombres iberoamericanos y españoles, siendo estos: Ofelia Medina,
Marina de Tavira, Bruno Bichir, Héctor Bonilla, Damián Alcázar, Dolores Heredia, Jaime Camil, Eugenio Derbez, Arturo Ripstein y Alejandro Jorodowsky, México; Carmen Maura, Ángela Molina, Jordi Mollá, Eduardo Noriega, Javier Cámara, Paz Vega, Elena Anaya, Carlos Bardem, Rossy de Palma, Verónica Echegui, Martha Etura, Javier Gutiérrez, Daniel Brühl, Juan Diego Botto, Irene Escolar, José Luis Alcaine y Rodrigo Sorogoyen, España; Edgar Ramírez, Venezuela; Rodrigo Santoro y Héctor Olivera, Brasil; Mia Maestro, Ricardo Darín, Viggo Mortensen, aunque neoyorquino considerado argentino por los años vividos allí; y Adolfo Aristaraín, Argentina; y por último Daniela Vega, Pedro Pascal, y Paulina García, Chile.

Si estos 842 nuevos afiliados aceptaran, la Academia de Hollywood contará con 9,000 miembros.

About Manolo Garcia-Oliva

Manolo García Oliva was born in La Habana, Cuba on September 16, 1938 and emigrated to the United States in 1961. He has worked as a columnist for El Tiempo, Canales Magazine, ABC de las Américas, Latin American Weekly Edition; and currently for Esmeralda, and Impacto Latin News. From early 1970s to late 1990s he was Community Affairs Director and Public Relations Director at WNJU47 Telemundo and then Director of Community Events at WXTV41 Univisión. Mr. García Oliva is currently the Community Liaison for Majority Members of the New York State Senate. The Honorable Jose E. Serrano paid tribute to Mr. Garcia-Oliva during the 102nd U. S. Congress Session for his community service. Other awards and citations given to Mr. Garcia-Oliva for his community service and his work in the Arts include: a Silver Medal of Arts, Sciences and Letters of France; citations by former Governor Mario M. Cuomo and proclamations presented by the Municipal Council of the City of Newark and by the New Jersey State Congress. He was also honored at the Cuban Day Parade and Hispanic Day Parade Quincentennial Celebration. Thalia Spanish Theatre Board of Director honored Mr. Garcia-Oliva for his efforts in establishing legitimate Spanish theater in the New York metropolitan area. In September 2014 he was presented with the keys of Repertorio Español Theater. King Felipe VI of Spain, awarded Mr. García Oliva the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica, at El Palacio Real de Madrid, July 17th 2014. In 1983 Mr. Garcia-Oliva was elected President of the Asociación de Cronístas de Espectáculos de Nueva York, ACE, a position he held until May 1997. He is currently President of HOLA, the Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors, President Emeritus of ACE; Treasurer of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation NATAS. He also serves on the boards of Repertorio Español, Teatro Círculo, Thalia Spanish Theatre and the Mexican Cultural Institute.
