OFFENSIVE INSULTS AND FALSE ACCUSATIONS TO FILM DIRECTOR ARTUR BALDER REFUTED BY ACE

ACE condemns publicly calumniations, false accusations and offensive insults expressed by RTVE US correspondent Almudena Ariza

The Association of Latin Entertainment Critics of New York, the oldest among the journalistic institutions of Hispanic arts and entertainment sector in the United States, usually known by its acronym ACE, through its president, the Dominican journalist Fernando Campos, and on behalf of its Ethics Professional Committee, just refute the false accusations and offensive insults written by Almudena Ariza, bureau chief of the Spanish broadcaster RTVE (national TV of Spain), against the Spanish American film director Artur Balder, who recently was declared the winner of the 2015 ACE Award for his documentary “Little Spain”, in a professional communication.
In the words of Campos: “We consider inadmissible these practices based on bare offensive insults used by Ms. Ariza, which should not be tolerated in the journalistic environment and information management, and still are more serious because they come from the national public television of Spain, RTVE’s United States bureau”.
On the subject, the ACE condemns the offensive insults and calumniations that this journalist has written indiscriminately, asking publicly to the Ethics Department of RTVE to dismiss the correspondent and remove the correspondent from the US, because of her unacceptable journalistic approach, considering her ways incompatible with the established practices of the likes.
ACE insists that the professed gratuitous insults against the director Artur Balder are a rare boldness in the film and information industry, especially when RTVE’s correspondent a priori takes for granted totally false facts, basing the insults on her suspicion that documentary “Little Spain” does not exist, when in fact it does exist, is for sale on DVD, and has been awarded Best Documentary 2014 by the competition section of the international film awards by this journalistic institution, thus the correspondent acting on behalf of an entire public broadcaster, RTVE, and ultimately stating that she “never would inform about the (director’s) films, if case they would exist.”
After having direct access to the insults as of February 5, 2015, sent by the journalist to the film director during a professional communication, in order to damage his moral and professional work and reputation, ACE wanted to stress the importance of good professional practices that are based on respect for audiovisual content creators and workers, often mistreated by
media indiscriminately, as this is of the most notorious and insulting cases.

Accusing the director of the documentary not being the author of his own work and acting under the suspicion without other facts, RTVE’s correspondent in the US sought directly to cause the greatest moral damages, based on the falsehood that the film and research on “Little Spain” did not exist.
The ACE also wants to show respect for the public broadcaster RTVE, in the hope precisely that the work of so many good people in this public institution should not be compromised or tainted by the unacceptable practices of one correspondent who acts as such on behalf of the whole institution. //////////
