The 49th Annual Latin ACE Awards Film Winners
2015 COMPETITION:

Best Motion Picture
Winner: “Vestido de novia”, screenplay and directed by Marilyn Soraya.

Best Director
Winner: Arturo Sotto Díaz – for “Boccaccerías habaneras”.

Best Documentary
Winner: “The reality of the imaginary”, directed, edited and screenplay by Artur Balder.

Best Opera Prima
Winner: “Medardo”, directed by Nitsy Grau.

Best Lead Actress in a Motion Picture
Winner: Isabel Santos – “Vestido de novia”.

Best Lead Actor in a Motion Picture
Winner: Tenoch Huerta – “Days of grace”.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture
Winner: Geraldine Chaplin – “Dollars of sand”.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture
Winner: Carlos Bardem – “Days of grace”.

The Latin ACE Awards, the Association of Entertainment Critics of New York, usually known by its acronym ACE, currently celebrating its 49th year as the dean of journalistic institutions of the Hispanic arts sector in the US, granting excellence in theater, film and TV with no interruption yearly since its foundation, has announced the winners of its annual film awards for the year in Manhattan, New York, selected by its Film Commission.

In the film category, the 2015 ACE Award for Best Film production is for  “Vestido de novia” (Cuba) with screenplay and direction by Marilyn Soraya. Best Director was won Arturo Sotto Díaz, for “Boccaccerías habaneras”, also a Cuban production.

In the category Best Documentary the winner is Artur Balder (United States) director, screenplay and editor of “The reality of the imaginary”, while Nitsy Grau for “Medardo” receives the Opera Prima Award.

Isabel Santos receives Best Leading Actress recognition for her role in ‘Vestido de novia’, and Geraldine Chaplin achieves the Best Supporting Actress for her participation in ‘Dollars of sand’, a production from the Dominican Republic. Best Leading Actor award is for the Mexican Tenoch Huerta in ‘Days of grace’, while Best Supporting Actor goes to Carlos Bardem (Spain), also in ‘Days of grace’, a Mexican production.

The Film Commission grants two Special Distinctions to the film ‘Dollars of sand’ from the Dominican Republic, selected to 88th Oscar Awards in the category Best Foreign Film, and to actress Edna Lee Figueroa for her role at the Ecuadorian-Dutch production ‘Medardo’.

Mejor Película

La Asociacion de Cronistas de Espectáculos de Nueva York, conocida internacionalmente por sus siglas ACE, fundada en 1966 y con 49 años de reconocimientos y entregas de premios a lo más excelente del cine, teatro y televisión latinos en y desde Nueva York de manera ininterrumpida, acaba de dar conocer los ganadores de los Premios ACE 2016 en las categorías competitivas designadas por su Comisión de Cine.

La Comisión de Cine de la ACE seleccionó como Mejor Película la produccion “Vestido de novia” (Cuba), con guión y dirección de Marilyn Solaya. El cubano Arturo Sotto Diaz fue declarado Mejor Director por “Boccanerias habaneras”, de la cual también fue guionista.

El premio Opera Prima estará destinado a Nitsy Grau (Ecuador) por su trabajo de dirección en “Medardo”, coproducción de Ecuador y Holanda. Y en la categoría de Mejor Documental resultó ganadora “La realidad de lo imaginario”, con guión, dirección y montaje de Artur Balder (Estados Unidos).

En los apartados de actuación los ganadores del ACE 2016 de Cine son el mexicano Tenoch Huerta como Mejor Actor por la produccion “Dias de gracia”; Isabel Santos, de Cuba, Mejor Actriz, por “Vestido de novia”; Carlos Bardem, de España, Mejor Coactuación Masculina, por la produccion mexicana “Dias de gracia”; y Geraldine Chaplin (Estados Unidos), por “Dólares de arena”, de la Republica Dominicana, por la Mejor Coactuación Femenina.

Las Distinciones Especiales del Año le corresponden a “Dólares en la arena”, de la Republica Dominicana, seleccionada para representar a su país en el apartado de Mejor Película Extranjera en la 88 edición del Premio Oscar, de Hollywood; y a Edna Lee Figueroa por su relevante actuación en la cinta “Medardo” (Ecuador-Holanda).
